Djinn Daisy is a play on words. The Arabic word for a demon, and a cocktail made during American Prohibition. It is a strange combination right? So is she, and most of the things she does! She loves a good juxtaposition in wordplay and her art.
Native to Colorado, her time was split between the city and the prairie. Out on the prairie her grandmother taughter her needle work and how to sew clothing which is where her passion for textiles began.. In the city she liked to skate, draw and dance which made for a very eclectic group of friends and a love of the underground and countercultures around the world.
She started belly dancing in 2005 and began to make costumes for herself and her community.
For over a decade she was professionally making costumes, stage managing and belly dancing in Southern California. Her Dance Studio, Blue Scarab, was located in the Mojave Desert until 2010, when she moved back to Colorado, where she got her degree in Fashion Design from Emily Griffith, where her great grandmother had also attended school.
You can now find her sewing, drawing and designing again from her studio in Denver or vending at festivals and events around Colorado.
The only thing she likes more than sewing, dancing and working with textiles is teaching and passing these skills on. Textiles and dance can have a very deep personal meaning and can carry stories of everything from emotion, political, cultural and fantasy. She creates a safe space where learning is fun and rewarding.
Having spent a few decades in the industry, seeing the waste and harm that the world of fashion has had on the planet, she makes her art with the smallest and least harmful impact on our planet as she can. Locally made and manufactured, Upcycling and the 3 R’s are used with every item she creates, while maintaining quality. Her clothing is comfortable, easy to care for and well made. Her designs are creative and clever, often having multi-functional and hidden features they are unique and made with love, always.
